Unlock Your Herd’s Potential with Maximus™
Are you looking for premium forage to support herd performance and pasture productivity? Maximus™ is a medium-maturing tetraploid annual ryegrass developed to provide earlier forage availability, high dry matter production, and excellent quality for grazing or mechanical harvest. Its large leaves, high sugar content, and palatability help encourage greater intake while delivering productive winter and spring forage.
Earlier, High-Quality Seasonal Forage
Maximus™ combines medium maturity with vigorous winter growth to provide forage earlier than later-maturing annual ryegrass varieties. This earlier availability helps producers fill seasonal forage gaps and maintain productive grazing programs when warm-season pastures are dormant.
In high-rainfall areas of the Gulf Coast, strong production can be expected from November through May. Farther north, most production typically occurs from late February through May.
Designed for Productivity
Maximus™ has an upright growth habit and large, succulent leaves that contribute to high dry matter production and make the crop especially well suited for mechanical harvesting. These large leaves also provide highly palatable, high-sugar forage that encourages intake and supports livestock performance.
Flexible for Grazing and Mechanical Harvest
Maximus™ is well suited for mechanical harvesting while also performing exceptionally in grazing systems, giving producers flexibility across a variety of forage management practices.
It may be planted as a monoculture or combined with clovers, forage turnips, or small grains to increase forage diversity and extend winter availability. Whether grazed directly or harvested for stored forage, Maximus™ delivers the yield and quality producers need from their seasonal acres.
Good Rust Resistance for Dependable Quality
Maximus™ provides good resistance to rust, helping protect leaf health, forage quality, and yield under disease pressure. It is adapted for production in the Gulf Coast states, California, and Mexico, where it delivers dependable performance across varied growing conditions.
Proven Under Intensive Grazing
Maximus™ has been evaluated for forage yield in Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas. It has also demonstrated strong performance under intensive stocker grazing in South Texas, providing real-world evidence of its productivity and grazing suitability.
Part of the PinPoint™ Forage System
Maximus™ is part of Barenbrug’s PinPoint™ forage system, an integrated approach that combines perennial pastures, seasonal forage crops, legumes, and grazing management to help producers extend grazing and reduce dependence on purchased feed.
Within the PinPoint™ system, Maximus™ provides earlier cool-season forage for winter and spring, helping fill the gap between declining warm-season production and the return of productive summer pastures.
