Welcome to a new era of forage solutions with Barduro | Yellow Jacket® red clover. Crafted with the needs of cattle and dairy operations in mind, Barduro | Yellow Jacket® combines exceptional persistence, drought tolerance, and Yellow Jacket® seed enhancement technology to deliver dependable forage under challenging conditions. Whether you're improving existing pastures or establishing new forage stands, Barduro™ powered by Yellow Jacket® helps maximize productivity season after season.
Why Choose Barduro | Yellow Jacket®?
Exceptional Hardiness and Durability
Barduro™ earned its name for a reason. Developed at the University of Florida, this persistent, mid-dormancy red clover was bred for high resistance to root-knot nematodes, helping it maintain productivity where other clovers struggle.
During drought trials at the Auburn Extension Research Center in Crossville, Alabama, Barduro | Yellow Jacket® was the only experimental clover to survive through one of the worst droughts in 25 years. When drought conditions continued into what became the worst drought recorded in 100 years, Barduro™ continued to demonstrate exceptional persistence.
Superior Drought and Heat Tolerance
Whether you have dry or sloped pastures, Barduro™'s exceptional drought and heat tolerance ensure it remains robust and productive. Its ability to withstand extreme weather conditions makes it the ideal choice for maintaining high-quality forage throughout the year.
Competitive and Versatile
Barduro | Yellow Jacket® performs exceptionally well with cool-season perennial grasses including perennial ryegrass, orchardgrass, and tall fescue, while also pairing well with bermudagrass. Its versatility makes it an excellent choice for both grazing and hay production.
Powered by Yellow Jacket®
Every seed is pre-inoculated and coated with Yellow Jacket®, Barenbrug's proprietary seed enhancement technology. Yellow Jacket® contains a patented compound capable of absorbing up to 600 times its weight in water, promoting faster establishment, improved seedling vigor, and stronger early plant development.
High Yield Potential
Thanks to its persistent growth habit and outstanding stress tolerance, Barduro | Yellow Jacket® consistently delivers excellent forage yields. Multi-state trials in Tennessee and across the southeastern United States demonstrate its ability to produce dependable forage under demanding conditions.

Technical Information
Uses
Barduro | Yellow Jacket® pairs perfectly with cool-season perennial grasses like perennial ryegrass, orchardgrass, and tall fescue, as well as bermudagrass. It is ideally suited for both grazing and hay production.
Establishment
Barduro | Yellow Jacket® can be broadcast or drilled into a prepared seedbed or over-seeded into existing grass stands. Spring and fall planting are both effective, with fall planting recommended at least eight weeks before a killing frost.
Pre-inoculated and powered by Yellow Jacket®, Barduro™ promotes faster establishment and healthier seedlings through improved water availability during germination.
Seeding Rate
- Companion with Grass: 8–10 lbs/acre
- Over-Seeding into Grass: 8–12 lbs/acre
Nitrogen Fixation
Legumes like Barduro™ produce nitrogen, reducing fertilization costs. For maximum nitrogen fixation, ensure the seed is properly inoculated to introduce the necessary rhizobium bacteria into the soil.
Management
For optimal forage yield and stand persistence:
- Establishment Year: Harvest before the full-bloom stage.
- Established Stand: First cut at early-bloom stage and subsequent harvests at late-bud or early-bloom stage.
- Conditions: Avoid harvesting under hot, dry conditions or too close to the first freeze to maintain stand longevity.
